Priority Axis 4 - Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change
Operational Programme I - Priority Axis 4 aims to implement measures that are intended to mitigate the risks brought about by climate change and also measures intended to reduce aerial emissions resulting from electricity generation which, is one of the greastest sources of greenhouse emissions.
The financial allocation for this Priority Axis amounts to €121,000,000 of which €102,850,000 are Community Funding (European Regional Development Fund).
Operational Objectives
This Priority Axis aims to reach a number of operational objectives:
To reduce airborne emissions resulting from electricity generation;
To study the viability of interconnection with mainland Europe and other means to secure supply (through, for example, large offshore RES farms), including the expansion of the current distribution system to cater for increased electricity generation;
To promote the use of RES and energy efficiency and reduction in the use of non-renewable energy sources;
To promote the use of RES and energy efficiency measures at the domestic and enterprise levels;
To develop infrastructure to minimise the effects of storm water.
Focus Areas of Intervention
The focus areas of intervention identified by this Priority Axis are:
